Mystic Falls (2.4 miles out-and-back to the falls; longer if you do the loop) was one of our favorite hikes in Yellowstone. A whole lotta bang for very little buck. This retreat into the woods was exactly the change of pace that we needed after a long day of crowds and geysers. It’s really hard to capture the beauty and solitude of this hike in photographs … but that never stops me from trying.

First view of the falls. But wait, there’s more!
Full view of the 70-foot cascade falls!

And then we took lots of selfies…

After a 10-hour day in the park, we happily retreated to our campsite for a fabulous, rain-free evening. (Though we all awoke with a fright when a thunderstorm rolled in about 1am.)
